Crescent Wealth hopes you and your family have enjoyed a wonderful and fulfilling 2019. As the year draws to an end and we soon enter a new decade, we reflect on the incredible year that has been.

With that in mind, we present to you a year in review with summaries of all the fantastic insights, celebrations, announcements and milestones we shared with you.

January

We began 2019 running podcasting with the Responsible Finance and Investment Foundation about the role for Islamic investment to reverse “intergenerational theft”.

We also shared why Islamic Finance is set for growth, based off The United Nations Development Program

The month also allowed us to look at the reasons why Crescent Wealth Super signed the Tobacco-Free Finance Pledge to help tackle the $388 Billion cost of smoking to Australians

February

In our philanthropic endeavours, Crescent Wealth was deeply proud to support The Crescent Foundation in its aim to help further refugee education.

As an Islamic & ethical investor, we explored just how Crescent Wealth invests inline with ethical values and our commitment not to invest in harmful activities, such as gambling, tobacco, alcohol and weapons.

We asked the question - did you know that alcohol costs Australian society $14.3 billion?

We’ve taken a stance in preventing the harm caused by alcohol by not investing in companies involved in the production, promotion or distribution of alcohol as well as gambling, tobacco, weaponry and interest-earning organisations.

We also shared 5 Ways to Boost your Super and encouraged our members search for any lost super.

April

This month, we launched our annual Umrah competition!

And shared the spiritual significance of performing Umrah.

We also covered the changes announced in the 2019-20 Federal budget that may have impacted your superannuation.

We were in the news again! Our Managing Director explained to The Australian about why Crescent Wealth doesn’t invest in banks and insurance companies

We shared the beautiful month of Ramadan with our community across Australia breaking fast, connecting, learning and appreciating our diverse, wonderful and accomplished community.

We also shared the significant trend of how Islamically compliant investing is appealing to more and more people outside of the Islamic community.

June

Each year, Crescent Wealth’s Eid @ Luna Park celebrations get bigger and better. Over two days and two cities, thousands of Muslim families enjoyed amazing company, surrounds and food at two of Australia’s most iconic theme parks: Luna Park Melbourne and Sydney. It was wonderful to see so many of our members enjoying a day out with friends and family. 

Road trip time!! This time in Melbourne and Sydney, presenting the “Simple Obligations of Money” educational seminars teaching members the essentials of Superannuation, Zakat and Wills from an Islamic perspective.

We also highlighted some good tips and tricks to be aware of in managing your superannuation. 

July

As we bring in the new financial year, we shared with you the updated key rules, regulations, rates and thresholds for the 2019/2020 financial year. 

We also welcomed Mr Jason Hazel as our Chief Investment Officer, who has been a great addition to the Crescent Wealth family and a strong supporter of our investment ethos.

Road trip time! We visited Perth this month with our partners NZF!

Educating our community on the importance of their super with the Simple Obligations of Money information session.

We also supported two Crescent Institute events with past and present Premier’s. The current Premier of WA the Hon Mark McGowan and past Victoria’s Premier The Hon Jeff Kennett. 

August

We celebrated the wonderful occasion of Eid Al Adha with our community and wished them a joyous Eid with family and friends! 

We also highlighted the global movement in making conscious decisions to create positive change and the common values shared between Islamic & Socially Responsible Investing

September

Call us crazy, but we jumped (abseiled) off a building to raise awareness for refugee scholarships with Western Sydney University, Channel 10 News and one of our scholarship recipients Arash Boadbar.

We celebrated the graduation of a Crescent Scholar, Hamid Al-Kalaney completing a Master of Information and Communications Technology, with quite an impressive GPA of 6.083.

We continued our road trips up North to Darwin! To meet our wonderful community, members and deliver our passion of educating our communities about the importance of superannuation, retirement planning and the positive role Islamic Investments can play.

We also introduced you to a Crescent Wealth Super member, in an effort to showcase our wide, wonderful and diverse member base. We’ve flipped the traditional Q&A on its head to really get to know our members on a human level!

October

As a way of saying thank you to all our members, we launched the Crescent Rewards program and shared the opportunity to create memories with a day full of fun at Taronga Zoo with a special offer. 

We also supported a very important Super conversation at the launch of The Crescent Think Tank. With a highly esteemed and experienced panel discussing if the super system is failing many Australians

November

The Annual State of the Global Islamic Economy Report launched in major cities around the world, including New York, Dubai, Kuala Lumpar, Jakarta and Sydney.
The report is the go-to reference for investors, entrepreneurs and industry executives for everything Islamic / Halal related. 

Crescent Wealth was invited to take part in this report demonstrating our presence on the global stage and showcasing our leadership in addressing the demand for Islamic super & ethical investments.

We said Nup to the Cup and explored the true cost of Australia’s first place prize in gambling and how the participants in that event extend far beyond your Melbourne Cup ‘punter’ through superannuation and investments.

We also highlighted 8 ‘red flags’ you are encouraged to reflect on when deciding if a SMSF is right for you.

We attended Islamic Council of Victoria annual dinner and congratulate them on all their amazing contributions and vision of building a connected community.

We thanked our members for joining us at Taronga Zoo over the last couple of months and taking up our Crescent Rewards offer - we look forward to seeing you back at Taronga Zoo in 2020 for Crescent Wealth EID @ Taronga Zoo inshaAllah!

Our MD Talal Yassine was interviewed by the Fireside Magazine about his journey from taxi driver to Islamic super Managing Director.

An exciting journey which would not be possible without the thousands of members who have joined on us on the ethical & Islamic superannuation journey. 

We share the Islamic Investment Year in Review for 2019. Our Chief Investment Officer shares the ups and downs of 2019 from the impacts of the US- China trade war to the UK Brexit election.

Our Net performance returns ended the calendar year strong with the Growth option returning 13.48%, Balance returning 10.96% and Conservative 6.37% as at the 23rd Dec.
